Abstract The article exposes the impact of innovation for organizational development with an emphasis on the agri-food sector. A characterization of the science, technology and innovation system in Cuba is presented in which its impact on economic and social development is evaluated. The methodological bases that facilitate the carrying out of the study to measure culture and innovative capacity in companies belonging to the agri-food sector are analyzed, from which the results are analyzed and the main limitations and potentialities are identified. The research shows that in terms of innovation there is no development for this sector, which requires, based on the results, to design strategies and policies conducive to raising innovative capacities and culture with the premise of guaranteeing food security, economic and productive efficiency of companies in the sector.
