Abstract:

Objective: This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of using anatomical models on the academic achievement of students within the scope of anatomy lecture in health sciences undergraduate education. Methods: The research was carried out in Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing. The population of the research consisted of first-year students (N=1204) who took anatomy lessons in the 2019-2020 or 2021-2022 fall semesters of these Faculties, and the sample consisted of 580 students who met the inclusion criteria of the study. Anatomy pass mark and demographic information of the students were obtained from the university's student information system (OBIS). The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed to show data distribution and the comparison of the pass marks were made with the Student's t test. Results: 36.9% of the students are Midwifery, 33.4% Child Development and 29.7% Nutrition and Dietetics Department students. The average of the anatomy pass mark of the 2019-2020 fall semester students (73.13±10.99) is higher than the 2021-2022 fall semester students (64.45±12.14), and this difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: It was determined that the anatomy pass mark averages of the students who took anatomy lecture in two different semesters were higher in the pre-anatomical laboratory group. It has been concluded that some of the arrangements made in education, such as shortening the course hours and removing the obligation for students to attend classes due to the pandemic, might reduce the success grade of the students in the fall semester of 2021-2022.
