This article aims to explore the use of social media by the Austrian Social Democratic Party (SPÖ), one of the oldest parties in Europe. The origin of the Austrian Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) dates back to many years ago, and the voters are often made up of older individuals. SPÖ calls on voters, especially through Facebook and Twitter social media accounts. In recent years, the increasing use of online activities and social media, the SPO is striving to become a modern and progressive party by leaving traditional politics. The opposition party’s critical view of the SPO, other parties, and especially the government, also reflects the content on social media. Although the SPO targeted the bourgeois-conservative electoral class, the conservatives remained loyal to the Christian Social SPO instead of passing to the neo-capitalist SPO. In this article, it was attempted to determine whether there is democratic tolerance in social media use and sharing that reflects the critical perspective of the SPO.
