Abstract:

Mafic volcanic rocks belonging to the Yüksekova Complex, which outcrops in the southwest of Asker Mountain (Elazığ), were examined with Confocal Raman Spectroscopy. While mafic volcanic rocks are almost petrographically homogeneous in the compared areas, they partially vary in terms of textural and alteration types. In extrusive rocks dominated by plagioclase + pyroxene ± olivine; porphyritic, amygdaloidal and microlithic textures can be observed. While a characteristic composition or textural feature cannot be distinguished in a certain location, alteration features may seem dominant in some locations depending on their type. Alterations such as opacification, silicification, spilitization, argillization, chloritization, carbonation and serpentinization are normally observed. In this study, mafic volcanic rocks are generally defined as spilitic basalt, amygdaloidal basalt, pyroxene basalt and rarely dolerite. As a result of Confocal Raman Spectroscopy analyzes performed on pyroxene, plagioclase and some opaque minerals found in basaltic composition volcanic rock samples outcropping in the study area; augite, diopside, albite, labradorite, magnetite; Secondarily, epidote and hematite minerals were detected.
