Özet:

In Turkey, which is one of the countries who are struggling with inflation for years, agricultural sector is under the influence of inflation too. In terms of understanding the effect of inflation and thus determining the status and direction of resources transfer between sectors, the terms of domestic trade are important. The terms of domestic trade indicate the transfer of resources from agricultural sector to non-agricultural sectors. With the help of this method, it is possible to follow the economic welfare changes in the sector and to understand the changes in the purchasing power of the agricultural sector. The development of the terms of domestic trade against agriculture indicates agriculture is taxed by other sectors, and the realization in favor of it shows the transfer of resources from non-agriculture sectors to agriculture sector. The inter-sectoral price changes and course also affect the determination of incentives and supports within the scope of agricultural policies. In this study, by calculating the terms of domestic trade of tomato between 2003-2017, it’s aimed to calculate and interpret the purchasing power of producers. Within the scope of net changes in terms of domestic trade; calculated tomato production input prices are based on farmer price and the consumer price index in 2003. In the study, although the terms of agricultural trade followed a favorable course in favor of the producer, it followed a course against the tomato producer. This means that the farmer can get less non-agricultural goods and services with the prices he receives from the agricultural product produced.
