Abstract Distinguished Professor Dr. Abdülkadir Lütfi NOYAN was born in 1886 in Sivas, and died on September 3rd, 1977 in Ankara. He graduated from Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane (Military Medical School) in 1910. The next year, following an internship in Gülhane School of Practice, he started as a resident in Internal Medicine Clinic. In 1919, he was appointed as a Professor in Military Hygiene and Internal Medicine Clinic. In 1941, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed as the Medical Head of the 1st Army. In 1943, he was promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed as the Head of the Medical Department of Ministry of National Defense. In 1945, he finished his military career. In 1947, he was appointed as a Distinguished Professor in Ankara University Medical School Infectious Diseases Clinic. He retired from this position in 1952 on his own will.He has too many writings. In his book about Military Hygiene, a chapter is devoted to the essential characteristics of a hospital. In this paper, the different essential characteristics of a hospital, as depicted from Distinguished Professor Dr. Abdülkadir Lütfi NOYAN’s point of view, (The location, Structural Style, Organization, The Characteristics of The Common and Administrative Sections, Hospital Furnishings and Patient Administration) have been presented.
