Abstract:

Violence, which is one of the important social problems nowadays, is more common in working life, especially in the service sector, compared to other fields. The health sector is one of these areas, and we frequently encounter violence in the health care sector in our daily life. With the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance of the service provided by health care personnel has drawn more attention, but violence in the health care sector continued to occur. This research was conducted on 200 health care workers to determine the effect of health care workers' exposure to violence from various professions on organizational cynicism and the mediating role of perceived organizational support in this effect. The questionnaire technique was used as a data collection method in the research. Personal information, Organizational Cynicism Scale, Perceived Organizational Support Scale and Violence Event Form were included in the questionnaire form. In the analysis of the data, SPSS 20 package program was used and frequency and percentage, arithmetic mean, independent samples t-test, simple linear regression and multiple linear regression analyzes were performed. As a result of the analysis, the degree of participants’ exposure to violence was positive on the levels of organizational cynicism; On the other hand, it has been found to have a negative effect on the perceptions of organizational support. The perceived organizational support levels of the participants also have a negative effect on their organizational cynicism levels. It has also been found that perceived organizational support has a partial mediating role in the effect of exposure to violence on organizational cynicism.
