Different practices about the extraordinary sessions of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey during the recess give rise to arbitrary approaches. This study examines the 27 extraordinary sessions during the post-1983 period including the problems before and after the meeting. It aims to remove the confusion on the Speaker’s margin of appreciation, the meetings of Board of Spokesmen, roll call and parliamentary recess after the meeting. All calls for extraordinary sessions are made by the required number of deputies except two cases in which the call made by the Speaker. The calls are often made by the members of the opposition parties rather than government party or parties. As a specific case, the movement of the deputies who are not nominated again or who do not like their ranks is examined. Their calls for extraordinary sessions and the Speakers’ response are examined as a unique case within this subject. Finally some minor amendments are offered for the Standing Orders. Moreover the parliamentary practices on the issue must be cleared
