Having been existent from time immemorial, slavery was found a place in both Islamic and the Ottoman laws. On the one hand it was fostered to release slaves by the encouragement of Islam, on the other hand, thousands of slaves brought from Poland, Russia and Caucasus made this system stronger and more established in the society. In the Ottoman society, everybody who was economically powerful bought slaves and employed them in family household and agricultural works. When the slaves in the Ottoman society who were fairly in good position as to the slaves in the other societies were released, they entered into the social life and even some of them came to key positions. In this study, it is examined the condition of slaves in Rodoscuk district by means of the data acquired from court registers.
