Abstract:

Abstract: After the First World War, the Allied Powers started the occupation process in Anatolia on the basis of the Armistice of Mudros on October 30, 1918. When the local resistance against the occupying forces was insufficient, it was decided by the Turkish Government to establish a regular army. After the Kütahya-Eskişehir Battles, this army retreated to the east of the Sakarya River and formed a front line. In this process, in addition to many land units, cavalry units also took on important duties. The 1st Cavalry Division, consisting of 1,100 horsemen under the command of Rafet Bey, was established on 25 December 1920. The division was directed and managed by Lieutenant Colonel Osman Zati Bey during the Sakarya Pitched Battle. In this study, the action plan and combat effect of the 1st Cavalry Division in the Sakarya Pitched Battle will be emphasized. The events were examined within the framework of the historical methodology, depending on the 5th Cavalry Corps. The publication consists of the General Staff, ATESE Documents and copyrighted works illuminating the Turkish War of Independence period.
