Abstract:

Urban open green spaces are a strategic planning tool aimed at sustainable urban development. Open green spaces, which are an important aspect of urbanization, improve the physical, social and psychological well-being of the urban population and increase the quality of life. With the increasing demand for green spaces in cities every day, especially in many developing countries, due to the high level of urbanization and widening inequalities in cities green areas need to be evaluated. Keçiören district which is one of the most populated district of Turkey and Ankara, is designated as the work area. 45 neighborhoods in the metropolitan area of Keçiören District were included in the study. Standard of open green space per capita in Turkey is 10 m²/person. However, in areas without city parks, open green area per person is also considered as 6,5 m². Since there is no city park in the study area, evaluation was made according to both standards. It has been determined that there are currently 526 active open green areas with an area of 4.737.740 m² in 45 neighborhoods located in the urban area of Keçiören District, and there are 5,2 m² open green areas per person. It was determined that 9 neighborhoods exceeded the 6.5 m²/person threshold, and the remaining 36 neighborhoods could not achieve this ratio. In addition, in case the open green areas planned to be built by Keçiören Municipality are completed; It has been determined that it will have an open green area of 7,360,341 m² and the open green area per person will increase to 8 m². It has been observed that there are more open green areas in the surrounding neighborhoods that have recently undergone urban transformation and the open green areas are more common in the neighborhoods that are located to the north of the ring road, and that open green areas are insufficient in the central neighborhoods where dense and congested settlements are dominant.
