Abstract In this work we propose, from the point of view of humour as discursive field, to aboard the ways in which the work of the Argentinian writer Roberto Fontanarrosa take back some of the most recurring motifs of Jorge Luis Borges in his comics and stories, making them pass through the discursive mould of the laugh. Departing from a theoretical cross between semiotics and discourse studies we analyse how Fontanarrosa redevelop and transform the work of the writer with a very precise political meaning: to invert the gesture of the nineteenth-century Gaucho Literature that made use of the “voice” of subaltern cultures from the field of the cultural literacy. In this case, departing from the appropriation of the Borges Literature, the goal is to made use of the cultural literacy from a kind of language traditionally understood as belonging to the popular culture. The purpose, in the end, is the dissolution of the limits and differences between one and the other.
