Abstract This essay investigates the relationship between documentary movies, historical memory and the place of the contemporary spectator. It takes Andrea Tonacci’s Serra da Desordem (2004) in order to think such issues as well the multiple faces of the documentary: record, witness, sociological essay and voyeurism.
