Anahtar kelimeler: Organofosfat, pankreatit, amilaz, Vitamin C, Vitamin E Abstract The effects of organophosphate insecticide Fenthion on rat amilase and lipase enzimes: Role of vitamins E and C Organophosphates cause toxic effects via inhibition of the enzime, cholinesterase. In some poisonings, thei cause acute pancreatitis. Therefore we aimed to investigate organophosphate insecticide Fenthion's adverse effects on rat pancreas and whether Vitamins C and E have protective role on possible adverse effects of Fenthion. Studi groups were designed as control group, Fenthion treated (administered % 25 of LD50) group and Fenthion+Vitamins C and E treated group. The blood samples were obtained 24 hours after Fenthion treat- ment. The activities of serum enzimes were determined in each sample at 24 h. When compared with control group lipase activiti was significantli decreased in Fenthion treated group. When compared with Fenthion treated group lipase activity was significantli increased in Fenthion+Vitamins E and C treated group. In conclusion from this findings, it is thought that Fenthion causes pancreas damage when administered at these doses to rats ,and that this may be prevented bi Vitamins E and C. SuleymanDemirel University TIP FACULTY JOURNAL: June 2003; 10(2) Effects of Organophosphate insecticide Fenthion on rat amylase and lipase enzymes: The role of Vitamin E and C Osman Gökalp, Hakan Mollaoglu, H. Ramazan Yilmaz, Irfan Altuntaş Summary Organophosphates are causing toxic effects by inhibiting the cholinesterase enzyme. They also cause acute pancreatitis in basic poisoning. We also, in rats, aimed at seeking to prevent the harmful effects of organophosphate insecticide Fenthion on the pancreas and the possible harmful effects of Fenthion with the combination of Vitamin E and C. The conversion groups were organized in the form of the control group, the group given to Fenthion (25 percent of LD50) and the group given to Fenthion+Vitamin E and C. 24 hours after the application of Fenthion, blood samples were taken and the amylase and lipase activity in the serum was measured. When it was met with the control group, the lipase activity of the Fenthion group was significantly reduced. When the group applied Fenthion and the group given Fenthion+Vitamin E and C were satisfied, the lipase activity was significantly increased. As a result of these findings, it was believed that Fenthion in this dose applied to rats caused pancreatic damage and this could be prevented by vitamin E and C application. It is likely that the preventive effect of vitamins E and C is considered by the antioxidant mechanism.
