This descriptive study was conducted to determine perceptions of nurses, who were working at State Hospitals of Health Ministry, regarding work environment. The study was carried out with 312 unit nurses and unit charge nurses, who worked at State Hospitals of Health Ministry in city center of Erzurum between May 2009 and June 2009 and accepted to participate in the study. Personal Information Form and Work Environment Scale were used to collect data of the study. Percentage, score means, t test, analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to conduct statistical analysis. Mean score of Work Environment Scale was found to be 87.19±11.35. Mean scores of sub-scales of the scale were as follows; mean score of the subscale Quality Management was 21.14±3.89, mean score of the subscale Physical Resources was 9.14±1.75, mean score of the subscale Professional Relationships was 13.70±1.98, mean score of the subscale Employee Fears was 24.71±6.86, and mean score of the subscale Job Satisfaction was 18.49±11.35. Positive work environments shall have a positive effect on patient outcomes as well as supporting performance of healthcare personnel and the quality of the service rendered.
