Abstract:

This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of postgraduate theses in order to examine the way the term 'transformation' is handled in our country. Within the scope of the study, a bibliometric analysis was carried out by scanning postgraduate theses containing the keywords 'transformation', 'urban conservation area', 'historical environment', 'historical fabric' and 'registration' through the Higher Education Council (YÖK) National Thesis Center database. As a result of separating the overlapping theses with double and triple combinations, the sample number of the research was determined as 214 theses. During the bibliometric analysis, theses containing keywords were analysed according to thesis type, year of publication, university, institute, language, scientific field, supervisor title, number of pages, accessibility status and research type. After these analyses, 32 theses in which the subject of transformation in the historical environment was not covered were excluded from the analysis area and 182 theses were analysed according to research types. As a result of the findings, it was determined that sample analysis was mostly used as a research type in this field. During the sample analysis, provinces, districts, villages, quarter, neighborhoods, streets, regions, buildings, ancient cities, protected areas and islands were selected as sampling areas under urban, regional, street and building groups. It is thought that this study will benefit public and private sector stakeholders working in the field of design and restoration in the historical environment.
