Abstract:

In the novels, the place occurs in the plot of the event, sometimes determinant and sometimes temporary. If this concept becomes of importance, it can be seen that it becomes effective in character development or in the process of the event. In order to understand how the spatial perception of the characters fictionalized in the novel Eylül, written by Mehmet Rauf, which is a well-known psychological novel in Turkish literature, changes due to their emotional alterations and experiences, the way in which the characters of the novel are defined through their experiences, expectations and emotional changes were examined. In the study, case study, one of the qualitative research designs, and thematic analysis were used in data analysis. This study points out the changes in the perception of the designed or undesigned spaces through the psychology of the people and exemplifies this subject with the characters of the novel. Similar studies on the concepts of experience and emotion, which are the most important factors in space design and perception, indicate the importance of this research. With the approach shown, it is aimed to capture a different framework in perspective. For this purpose, the connection that the characters corroborate with the places through theoretical approaches and readings has been examined. As a result, the codes created based on the descriptions of the characters were gathered under a theme and the change in the perception of space was observed through these themes. The effects of the emotional changes of the characters on the perception of the space have emerged through the situations identified in the novel Eylül.
