Çağdaş Sanat, kendinden önceki sanatın mitsel söylemini-büyük S ile yazılan ‘S’anat anlatısını kırma amacıyla yola çıkar. Akademinin kuralları biçim ve içerik odaklı işlerken gün gelir, bir pisuar sanat olarak sergilenir. Sanatın tüm kurallarını çiğneyen bir yaklaşımla üretilen (!) eser, hemen değil ama bir otuz yıl sonra sergi salonlarında kendisine yer bulur. Ready-made’ler -gündelik hayatın hazır nesneleri- kavramsal sanat adı altında kendi sembolik evrenlerini oluştururlar. Duchamp’ın 1917 tarihli Fountain’i bugün için yıkıcı misyonunun ötesinde mitleşmiş ve hatta bir otorite olarak sanat tarihinde kendisine yer edinmiştir. Ondan sonra “sanat asla eskisi gibi olmayacaktır”, Duchamp öncesi ve Duchamp sonrası ayrımlarına rastlanır. Mit kırıcı bir söylemin mit kurucu bir söyleme nasıl evrildiği Duchamp’ın bahsi geçen eseri üzerinden ele alınmaya çalışılacaktır. Peki Duchamp üzerinden oluşturulan bu yeni mit nasıl kırılacaktır, kırılmalı mıdır? Bağlamın sanatı belirlediği bir sanat evreninde sanatın aslında ne olduğunu sormanın yeni yolları ne olabilir, bağlam-duyarlı bir sanatın ötesi var mıdır? İtalyan sanatçı Maurizio Cattelan, çeşmeden mülhem ürettiği America adlı eseri ve devamında Comedian (Duvara Bantlanmış Muz) adlı işi ile aynı çizgiyi sürdürmekte mi yoksa başka bir sıçrama gerçekleştirmeyi başarmakta mıdır? Sanatçıyı Duchamp mitini kıran kişi olarak okumak mümkün müdür? Muzu satın alan çiftin “çağın ikonik nesnesi”, “tek boynuzlu at” ifadeleri, bu eserler için de mitik bir söylem evreni kurma girişimleri midir ve neden buna ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır? Çağdaş sanatın mit-kırıcı ve mit-kurucu söylemleri üstlenmesini nasıl yorumlamalıdır?
Contemporary Art sets out to break the mythical discourse of the previous art - the “A”rt narrative written with a capital S. As the rules of the academy are focused on form and content, there comes a day when a urinal is exhibited as art. Produced (!) with an approach that violates all the rules of art, the work finds a place for itself in exhibition halls, not immediately, but thirty years later. Ready-mades objects of everyday life create their own symbolic universe under the name of conceptual art. Duchamp's 1917 Fountain has become a myth beyond its destructive mission today and even has a place in art history as an authority. “Art will never be the same”, after him with distinctions emerging as pre-Duchamp and post-Duchamp. How a myth-breaking discourse evolves into a myth-building discourse will be discussed through Duchamp's aforementioned work. So how will this new myth created through Duchamp be broken or should it be broken? What could be new ways of asking what art really is, in an art universe where context determines art, is there beyond context-sensitive art? Does the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan continue in line with his fountain-inspired work America and his continuation Comedian (Banana Taped to the Wall) or does he succeed in making another leap? Is it possible to read the artist as the person who broke the Duchamp myth? Are the expressions of "the iconic object of the age" and "unicorn" of the couple who bought the banana, an attempt to establish a mythical discourse universe for these works, and why is this needed? How should one interpret contemporary art's assumption of myth-breaking and myth-building discourses?
