Abstract:

The importance of locality comes to the fore more frequently with the problems brought by globalization. Preserving local identities should be an essential step in our age, which is globalizing and taking immediate steps towards a uniform architecture. In this context, the adoption of historical structures and cultural values by the society and the demand for protection from local sources are of great importance in terms of preserving these values within the scope of sustainability and transferring them to the future. In the conservation approach of monumental buildings, it is necessary to integrate not only the building but also its environment with its co-existence and the conservation strategy should be addressed with this focus because monuments should be considered together with their surroundings. Therefore, they should be protected together with the spatial and cultural environment that created these. The protection of monumental structures against the traces of time is essential in terms of cultural sustainability. The approach to the conservation of monuments should be not only physical but also functional, thus ensuring the continuity of spatial experience and identity. In this study, inventory number 152, is one of the historical monumental structures in the Tepebağ Region, which is known as the first settlement area in Adana province. It was selected and determined to consider the monumental architecture and the concept of local conservation. The transformation of this monument has been examined with an integrated approach. A new approach has been put forward in the analysis of the process followed in the transfer and preservation of the building to future generations by examining the surveying and restoration processes regarding the re-functioning works carried out in this building.
