Araştırmanın konusu aydınlar, Türk aydınları ve özellikleri, aydınların dine ve din eğitimine yaklaşımlarıdır. Aydın ve Türk aydınının nitelikleri, bu ikisinin kıyaslanması, Türk aydını için kullanılan nitelikler ve nedenleri, Türk aydınlarının din ve din eğitimine bakışları kapsam olarak belirlenmiştir. Alanda Türk aydınının din eğitimine yönelik görüşlerine dair çok sınırlı çalışma bulunmaktadır. Burada; ulema, münevver, aydın ve özellikle Türk aydını kavramı, Türk aydınına yüklenen olumsuz anlamlar ve bunlardan da din ve din eğitimi ile ilgili olanlarının tespit edilmesi ve değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Literatürde aydın kavramına yüklenen anlamla da ilişkili olarak din ve din eğitimine yönelik olumsuz bir bakış açısının varlığından söz edilebilir. Bu bakımdan sınanmak istenen “Türk aydını din ve din eğitimine karşıt ya da mesafelidir” cümlesidir. Bu amaç çerçevesinde çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Doküman incelemesi ile elde edilen veriler, içerik analizi yoluyla incelenmiştir. Karşılaştırma, yorum, varsayım ve değerlendirmelere gidilerek düşünce ve fikirler, eldeki veriler çerçevesinde araştırılmaya ve anlaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. Aydınların homojen değil, Tanzimat’tan bugünlere farklı yaklaşımlara sahip şahıslar oldukları belirtilebilir. Din ve din eğitimi konusunda Türk aydını kavramının sadece olumsuzluklarla ele alınması da doğru değildir.
The subject of the research is intellectuals, Turkish intellectuals and their characteristics, their approaches to religion and religious education. The qualifications of intellectuals and Turkish intellectuals, the comparison of these two, the qualities used for Turkish intellectuals and their reasons, the views of Turkish intellectuals on religion and religious education had been determined as the scope. There are very limited studies on the views of Turkish intellectuals on religious education in the field. Here; it had been aimed to determine and evaluate the concept of ulamā, enlightened, intellectual and especially Turkish intellectual, the negative meanings attributed to Turkish intellectuals, and the ones related to religion and religious education. In relation to the meaning attributed to the concept of intellectual in the literature, it can be mentioned that there is a negative point of view towards religion and religious education. In this respect, the sentence "Turkish intellectual is against or distant from religion and religious education" is the sentence that is wanted to be tested. For this purpose, qualitative research method had been used in the study. The data obtained by document review had been examined through content analysis. By making comparisons, comments, assumptions and evaluations, thoughts and ideas had been tried to be researched and understood within the framework of the available data. It can be stated that intellectuals are not homogeneous, they are individuals with different approaches from the Tanzimat/reform era to today. It is not be correct to deal with the concept of Turkish intellectual in religion and religious education only with negativities.
