The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the emotional intelligence abilities and the coping with stress styles of the university students. In the order to determine the students’ emotional intelligence abilities, The Baron Emotional Quotient Inventory that was adapted to Turkish by Acar (2001) was utilized. The coping with stress styles are determined by “Coping with Stress Scale” constructed by Türküm (2002). The sample of the study is composed of 428 students attending different faculties of Selcuk University and is determined by randomly cluster sampling method. 198 of the participants are girls and 230 are boys. According to the research results; positive significant relationship was observed between emotional intelligence, intrapersonal abilities, interpersonal abilities, adaptability scales, coping with stress scale, general mood scale and inclining to the problem from the coping with stress styles whereas it was observed that there is a negative significant relationship between intrapersonal abilities subscale and avoidance from the problem of the coping with stress styles, it was investigated that there is a positive significant relationship between interpersonal abilities-general mood scale and seeking social support subscale.
