Abstract:

Thro our civilization history, people have put the foundations of today’s world by presenting a variety of vehicles with easy-to-processing materials, which are easily accessible in their surroundings depending on the geographical conditions of the place where they live. Stones, wood, bones, natural fiber and then metals have shaped the habit of eating from clothing to drinking; from agriculture to industry, the whole human structure has been shaped. In these, the products that are presented with wooden materials have a much more diverse use field. From architecture to kitchen tools, from transportation to sports tools, wood, which has a range of use in thousands of products, has formed a craftsmanship arm on its own. The bastons, which are one of the oldest products of wood processing, continue to exist as an instrument almost as old as human history. Thro the history of civilization, Baston has almost always retained its importance by marking the fashion perception of an era as a symbol of strength and virtue, the symbol of immortality, the main material of various sports activities, walking tools and ultimately clothes - the complementary product of the generation. The baston, which has a thousands of years of history, this oldest product of openness, has become more visible in the social life, especially since the second half of the 1900s. Baston has now received a product that is used for the purpose of support tools for the elderly and people with health problems, with a small number of characteristic bastons that are also requested for collection or gift purposes. In the characteristic bastons, the first one that comes to mind is Devrek Bastonu and Ahlat Bastonu. There is also another baston that has a rooted history, which is not known as the bastons that are counted in contrast, which is Beykoz Bastonu. The Beykoz bastonculuce, which has come to the point of disappearance today, with very little literary knowledge and the last one master of the activity that is actually ongoing, is one of the symbolic products that must be focused on, especially for a world city like Istanbul. This product, which is made from the castan tree, has its own own processes, with a number of characteristic models of certain heads, has come to the point of loss due to its very long years of neglect. For thousands of years such as Istanbul, it is very important to preserve characteristic products such as Beykoz Bastonu, Kandilli Writings, Beykoz Glass Affairs, Chile Bezi, where many civilizations and people come and pass. The loss of original cultural values in such cosmopolitan places, which are quite open to external effects, generates unreparable consequences. In Istanbul, it is very important to ensure the sustainability of the product in the first stage for Beykoz Bastonu, which is our subject of work in Beykoz, and to be taken into the geographical mark as well as other bastons. In this study, in the light of the existing literary knowledge concerning Beykoz Bastonu, the product’s history, characteristics, production stages and ultimately the current situation related to the activity have been studied in the site, indicating what to be done with regard to the subject.
