Teknolojinin gelişmesiyle öğrencilerde sanal ortamlarda olan olayları takip etme arzusu ve kaçırma korkusu gibi durumlar görülmektedir. Çalışmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin sosyal medya bağımlılık düzeyleri ile FOMO arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Tanımlayıcı-kesitsel tipteki bu araştırma, Mart-Temmuz 2022 tarihlerinde bir devlet üniversitesinde okuyan 400 öğrencinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tanımlayıcı Özellikler Soru Formu, Sosyal Medya Bağımlılığı Ölçeği ve Sosyal Ortamlarda Gelişmeleri Kaçırma Korkusu Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan üniversite öğrencilerinin %76.8’i 18-21 yaş arasında, %63.8’i kadın, %39’u sağlıkla ilgili bölümde okumakta, %58.7’si ailesi ile birlikte yaşamaktadır. Öğrencilerin %23’ü 10 saatten fazla günlük internete bağlandığını ve %34.3’ü sosyal medya bağımlısı olduğunu düşündüğünü ifade etmişlerdir. Öğrencilerin Sosyal Medya Bağımlılığı ile Sosyal Ortamda Gelişmeleri Kaçırma Korkusu Ölçeğinden ve tüm alt boyutlarından alınan toplam puanlar arasında pozitif yönde ve orta düzeyde ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir. İnternette geçirilen zaman, kullanma süresi ve kullanılan cihazlar sosyal medya bağımlılığını ve FOMO düzeyini etkilemektedir.
With the development of technology, there are situations such as the desire to follow the events in virtual environments and the fear of missing out. The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between university students' social media addiction levels and FOMO. This descriptive-specific study was conducted with the participation of 400 students studying at a state university between March-July 2022. The descriptive features question form, social media addiction scale and fear of missing developments in social environments were used. 76.8% of the university students participating in the study are between the ages of 18-21, 63.8% are women, 39% are studying in the health-related department, and 58.7% are living with their families. 23 %of the students stated that they were connected to the internet for more than 10 hours and that 34.3 %thought they were social media addicts. It has been determined that there is a positive and moderate relationship between the total scores obtained from the scales of social media addiction and social media addiction and the score of all sub -dimensions. The time spent on the Internet, the duration of use and the devices used affect social media addiction and the level of FOMO.
