Abstract It has been observed that the interest and tendency of individuals regarding the consumption of medicinal and aromatic plants has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, the changing medicinal and aromatic plant consumptions of individuals living in Mersin during the COVID-19 process were examined within the framework of the attribution theory. In this study, which was designed as a case study, "descriptive-exploratory, intrinsic and single embedded case study" design was used according to the purpose and sample of the research. The sample of the study consisted of 20 people who agreed to interview and working in herbalists in Mersin and 33 people living in Mersin during the COVID-19 process. The data were collected between April and July 2022 according to the purposeful sampling technique by using the interview form. The collected data were subjected to content and descriptive analysis. The findings of the study revealed that the reasons for the consumption of medicinal and aromatic plants were mostly internal, but the herbalists attached more external attributions compared to the consumers. It has been seen that the attribution theory could be used to explain the reasons for medicinal and aromatic plants consumption.
