Abstract:

Famous Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh has demonstrated his creativity with his works throughout his life and has contributed to modern arts and especially abstract art by influencing many thinkers and artists. In this study, van Gogh's approach to abstract art and modern art, how he positioned his admiration for labor and workforce in modern arts, will be examined through his works that inspired abstract and modern arts. The most important source of encouragement for abstract arts is to get away from all kinds of object and form content by using only paints, and the artist's effort to find the essential appearance by leaving the world behind. Van Gogh felt close to abstract and modern arts that tried to capture color and essence rather than classical works through his paintings. Behind the traces of modern and abstract arts, the painter stated that reaching beyond reality is possible by establishing sincere relations with reality and reflecting this reality in his works especially with his paintings such as Potato Eaters and Starry Night. Van Gogh, who also influenced many existentialist thinkers such as Martin Heidegger and J. Paul Sartre, inspired the approaches of how a work of art should be, with his works in which the existence announces itself and the truth is revealed.
