In this study, a teaching process, which aims to overcome difficulties of teachingEnglish idioms, is put forward and its effect on students is tested. During theprocess, idioms were conceptualized and classified according to their semantic andcognitive properties, and the students’ awareness on these properties was raised. 56students constituting the study group were assigned randomly and evenly as theexperiment and control groups. A pre-test post-test experimental design was used.The data collected was analysed by repeated measures design. The results showthat the teaching process has made the students in the experiment group developpositive learning behaviour and has operated as an effective variable on learningEnglish idioms
