Abstract:

It is not wrong to say that between 1945 and 1950 the Republican People's Party has followed a different policy from the previous period by keeping the issues related to religion and religion education on its agenda, and that it is a result of Turkey's more liberal election process. In this context, a professor who received medrese education, Shemseddin Günaltay, was brought to the Prime Minister's office in 1949, the comments were made that the CHP was an electoral investment to win the conservative voter crowd. The Democratic Party has defined the national cultural values in education since its first years of power, and has re-examined the issue of secularity that has not been agreed since the proclamation of the Republic by observing the internal and external developments. In this context, the DP power has implemented secularist policies that will meet the desires and expectations of its own base, while its education has been directed to public activities in order not to leave the olema and tarikat shishes who have grown up in the Ottoman period. If the subjective assessments of what model the DP has given weight in education will be left behind, it is clear that education is strived to move to a more liberal and global dimension from the point of view and content. In this study, it was tried to reveal the place and importance of religion in the educational policies of the DP. In this context, it is questioned how valid the re-development of religion is to the DP authority by addressing issues such as the opening of the Imam-Hatip schools, the establishment of the High Islamic Institute.
