Özet:

Introduction: In the in healthcare delivery, a new profession group definition has been made under the name of nurse assistant, whose education is given at high school level. The opinions of the nurses, who constitute of the majority of the healthcare professionals, about the duties and job descriptions of this profession which they will be work together, are important in terms of teamwork. Aim: This research was carried out to determine the opinions of nurses about nurse assistants’ job descriptions. Methods: In this descriptive study, a total of 824 nurses working in an education research hospital and private hospitals, located in Malatya city center were included. Any sample selection has not been made, and all nurses who agreed to participate in the study were included. The data were collected through a questionnaire form consisting of multiple choice and open-ended questions about the socio-demographic characteristics of nurses, the status of knowing job descriptions of nurse assistants and their opinions about this profession. Numerical values and percentages were used to evaluate obtained the data. Results: When the views of the nurses about the nurse assistants were examined, it was determined that 59.35% of the nurses did not know their job descriptions and 64.20% found the practice of nurse assistants unfavorable. In the study, it was found that 58.13% assigned their assistant students to take vital signs during their clinical practice, 27.32% assigned the assistant nurses to do the tasks of the nurse, such as oral care and bed wound care. It was determined that 58.40% did not want to work with the nurse assistants and 92.20% of them stated that they would experience legal problems when nurse assistants started to work. Conclusion: According to the results of this research, it was seen that the majority of nurses do not know the job descriptions of the nurse assistant and the nurses had the nurse assistants done the applications which are not included in their job descriptions. It is recommended that nurses and all other health professionals be informed about the duties and responsibilities of the assistant nurse, which is a new concept in the health system.
