Abstract:

In the ornamental plants sector of the Black Sea region; It has important advantages with its different ecological and geographical conditions, especially its proximity to foreign markets and its young population. Despite the investments made, the ornamental plants sector in the region has not developed at the same level in every city. The reason for this may be due to the incomplete and unplanned investments, as well as the difference in urban sociology. The aim of the study; To examine the situation of the Black Sea Region in the ornamental plants sector and to contribute to its development. The scope of work; It covered the provinces of Artvin, Rize, Trabzon, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Samsun, Tokat, Amasya, Çorum, Sinop, Kastamonu, Zonguldak, Bartın, Bolu, Karabük and Düzce and includes production data for these provinces. By determining the producers registered in the Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry in the provinces of the Black Sea Region and the data of TUIK; An evaluation was made at the provincial level. Although the development in the ornamental plants sector in the region is partially parallel to the size of the province, it is seen that the main reason for the development is the right investments, information, technique, sales support and tourism. It has been determined that the cities of Düzce, Samsun and Tokat, among the cities examined, have suitable climatic conditions, population, location, as well as an increasing tourism and transportation infrastructure, which is directly proportional to the development of the ornamental plant sector. However, Trabzon and Rize provinces, which are in a significant progress compared to other provinces in terms of tourism, could not show sufficient development. Ordu province, on the other hand, could not reach the targeted export capability despite the investments. In the provinces of Bayburt, Gümüşhane, Bolu, Karabük, Sinop and Amasya, there are no records of ornamental plants production.
