Abstract:

Abstract Aggression in school environments is an important problem that causes various problems in the short and long term. This research was carried out to determine how high school students' perceptions of aggression tendencies and value orientations change according to various variables. The sample of the research carried out in the relational screening model consists of 373 high school students studying at public high schools located in the Nicosia District center of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Personal information form, Buss-Perry Aggression Scale and Schwartz Values Scale were used in the study. According to the results obtained from the research findings, it was determined that the total aggression scores of the students were moderate and the boys exhibited more aggressive behavior compared to the girls. Conspicuously, students who receive disciplinary punishment at least 1-2 times at school were more aggressive acts.While the value of universality was in the first place regarding the value orientation of the students, it was determined that the values of benevolence, self-direction, tradition, security, success, power, conformity/obedience, stimulation and hedonism followed respectively. In the comparison of the aggression levels of the students with the value groups, it was determined that hedonism, power, success and arousal values increased the aggressive behavior, while the subordination-obedience sub-value decreased the aggression. The finding that the adoption of universalism and benevolence values, which emerged in the research, reduces aggression, is thought to be a guide in planning to deal more with issues such as equality, social justice and human value in the school environment.
