The greatness and reputation of a state can not be judged only by concrete factors such as surface area, military power and financial capacity. The era of Abdülhamid II. is remembered as a difficult course of time in which many social and political turbulences were experienced. As the Ottoman Empire's influence narrowed and even the survival problems were discussed, it was very important for the Sultan to follow the cultural and scientific developments and to maintain diplomacy of exchange and mutual gift giving in the context of information sources. In this study, archival documents related to mutual exchange of information and gifts with foreign countries during the period of Abdulhamid II., were examined. While these archival documents provide concrete information to us about the sources and types of information shared, they can also serve as a basis for scientific findings and interpretations made about this period. One of the aims of this study is the fact that the relationship between science and culture, politics and diplomacy can only be enlightened by such documentary studies
