Abstract:

In this study, a survey and field study was conducted to identify the current situation and problems of access to health and home care services of Turkish native elderly over the age of 50 living in the city of Hamm in Germany. On the basis of the findings obtained by the survey and field studies, various solutions proposed. The problems arising according to the importance, the lack of knowledge of the services provided by Turkish native elderly, the fear of taking advantage of the services offered and the city's lack of sufficient access to Turkish native elderly, and, finally, the language and cultural elements can be summarized. At the point of solving these problems, it is recommended that the municipality develop an effective communication system on the services offered to elderly, disabled and persons in need of continuous care and expand it to the second generation. The Hamm Municipality should also work on an effective database for Turkish-born elderly to eliminate the concerns that it feels due to the bilateral community structure and delayed integration. According to the results of the database study, the families where the elderly, disabled or persons in need of continuous care are identified (without sharing any secret information) should be periodically visited with the organization of the relevant units of the municipality's Turkish and German-born workers and civil society organizations. The presence of a Turkish-born employee in the visited team is of great importance both in terms of communication and the family's feelings comfortable and safe.
