Medical and surgical treatment of tyhroid diseases has been carried out by many medical centers. In this study, medical records of 119 patients operated in our clinic between 1984-1997 have been reviewed retrospectively. The pathologic examination of 106 (89%) thyroid lesions were benign and 13 (11%) were malignant. The pathologic examination of benign thyroid lesions revealed that there were 83 cases of nodular colloid goiter, 14 cases of adenoma, 6 cases of adenoma and nodular colloid goiter, 2 cases of throiditis and l case of diffuse colloid goiter. The pathologic examination results of 13 malignant thyroid lesions were papillary carcinoma in 10 cases, follicular carcinoma in 2 cases and Hürthle celi carcînoma in l case. Subtotal thyroidectomy, thyroid lobectomy and isthmusectomy and total thyroidectomy operations were performed İn 61, 49 and 9 pati ents respectively. We detected vocal cord paralysis in 8 patients (6.7%), hypocalcemia in 4 patients (3.4 %), vocal cordparesis in l patient (0.8%) and postoperative hematoma in l patient (0.8%) in the postoperative period. Postoperative complication rate was consistent with the rates of other studies. Results of this study were discussed with the review of the literature.
