The Assyrians established a number of commerce coloııies in Anatolia in the beginning of the 2nd milleııilU71 B.C. The Assyriaııs established a nıımber of coııımerce colonies in Anatolia. The merchallts of the colonies registered their transactions of business on day tab/ets written in Old Assyrian cUlıeiform. With the passing away of the colonies in the 18th century, cımeiform scripts stopped in Anatolia, not to reappear ımtil the emergence of the Kingdom of Hittite. The main sources that we have today for the history and culture of the Hittites are Hittite texts. The origüı of the Hittite cımeiform writing is one of the problems of the studies of Hittite. The earliest known Hittite texts were composed in the second half of the 17th ceııtııry. The most probable source of the Hittite cwıeiform should be considered the currellt cwıeiform in Northern Syria.
