Abstract:

Language has a number of functions not only for the perception of the outer world, but also for the understanding of the interior of the human being. The human who attributes words to beings outside of himself/herself and makes them meaningful in his/her mind also needs to make sense of the elements of his/her interior world through words. The relationship between language and thought is the basis of this requirement. The link between language and thought is complex. Both elements benefit greatly from each other. Language is used as a tool of thought in the expression of any concrete/abstract entity. In this respect, one of the main indicators of the link between language and thought is the mental vocabulary and its members. The members of the vocabulary have been studied with various classifications from past to present. These word types, which are generally considered as verbs, nouns, and prepositions, are also divided into sub-types. Mental verbs are also among the types of words that emerged as one of these types. In a similar context, it is possible to consider some words in the intellectual processes as 'mental nouns. Mental nouns are involved in intellectual/mental processes and they contain some criteria related to some concepts, facts and points. People who want to make sense of and name their interior concretize with these mental words. In this study, mental nouns are proposed as a type of nouns. The criteria for this type were examined within the framework of Turkish.
