Abstract:

Depending upon the technological developments, forms of socialization are gradually diversifying. Every day millions of people interact through the Internet by creating new ways of coexistence. This inevitably requires the development of new research methods within social sciences. This need for new approaches is even more crucial and urgent in women’s studies. The reason behind this is that new media technologies offer both the opportunity to transform existing power patterns and allow new experiences along with narration of already existing experiences of femininity. In addition, the increase in the visibility of women through new technologies and the transformation of their representation styles are other noteworthy issues to be considered in terms of women’s studies. Today women can now create their own representations through their own websites, blogs, vlogs, and social media accounts. These channels enable them to create online communities. Therefore, these new socialization styles make it necessary to think about new research methods in terms of women’s studies. With this perspective, in this study, a discussion was conducted on the possibilities of online ethnography as a convenient method to study online female communities.
