XIX. yüzyılın son çeyreğinde elektriğin Avrupa’da kullanımı hızla artmıştır. Bu dönemde Osmanlı Devleti, elektriğin çeşitli kullanım şekilleriyle karşı karşıya kalmıştır. Elektrik ülkede ilk olarak, Osmanlı donanmasının dikkatini çekmiştir. Uygun bir aydınlatma donanmanın gücünü çok arttıracaktır. Osmanlı Devleti’nde sinema elektrik kavramı için ikinci aşama olmuştur. Telgraf ve Posta Nazırı sinemayı incelemiştir. Kendisi bu icadın önemli bir ekonomik potansiyeli olduğunu görmüştür. Sağlık ve tıbbi teçhizat elektrik için bir başka alandır. Fakat II. Abdülhamit bu konuda bazı çekinceler ortaya koymuştur. Güvenlik gerekçesiyle, bu alanda bazı kuralların belirlenmesini emretmiştir. XX. yüzyıl başlarından itibaren, elektrik daha ulaşılabilir hale gelmiştir. Pek çok insan aydınlatma amaçlı olarak, kendileri için elektrik makineleri kullanmak istemiştir. Elektriğin son kullanımı alanı ise, kamu hizmeti olarak halka sunulmasıdır. Girişimciler şehirlerin aydınlatılması ve kamu ulaştırması için yatırımlarda bulunmak istemişlerdir.
The use of electricity was rapidly increased in Europe, during the last quarter of the 19th century. In this period, the Ottoman Empire met some different types of use of electricity. Electricity took first attention of the Ottoman Navy in the country. Proper lighting would increase the power of the navy very much. Cinema became the second level for the concept of electricity in the Ottoman Empire. Minister of Telegraph and Mail evaluated cinema. He claimed that this invention had an important economic potential. Health and medical devices were another field for electricity. But Abdulhamit II declared some reservations in this issue. He ordered the determination of some rules in this field, for security reasons. With the beginning of the 20th century, electricity became more accessible. For the purpose of lighting, many people demanded the use of electric machines for themselves. The last use area of electricity was serving it to people as public service. Entrepreneurs wanted to make ventures in city's lighting and public transportation.
