Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) which leads to a pandemic is a highly contagious disease. It is caused by novel coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV-2) which is known to spread via droplets, contact and aerosols from human to human. Therefore, high-risk aerosol producing procedures in the operating room such as endotracheal intubation put the anesthesia team at high risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. In addition, otorhinolaryngologic procedures also expose healthcare professionals to infectious aerosols, which arises risks for surgeons and increases the risks for the anesthetists. The aim of this review is to offer several methods for preventing cross-infection and improve safety during anesthetic management of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients undergoing otorhinolaryngologic procedures.
