The identity gendered by women and men and the norms imposed by society is a question that has been going on for centuries. It has been compulsory for women’s identity to have equal conditions with men in order to find their place in many areas such as social, political and legal area. Social status of the women who are restricted by the influence of religion and general norms in the Ottoman Empire has been debated and women’s voices have begun to be heard in different forms. The mobility of the Ottoman women started in the process of claiming their rightsespecially after the constitutional monarchy has begun to overturn the balances against the traditional lifestyle that has been going on for years. Intellectual women in Ottoman society expressed their rightful demands by ignoring social norms and this process became more meaningful with Republican revolutions. The woman’s struggle to get rid of the idea of male dominated society has been overlapped with the image of the woman that was wanted to be formed by the Republican modernization. Changes in society and in the political structure created a modern and contemporary Turkish woman who brought her out of a secondary entity status and opened to the outside world. Thus, Turkish women were directed to jobs which were thought to be feasible by men.
