Sağlık göstergeleri, toplum sağlığı ve sağlık sisteminin performansını ortaya koymaya yönelik ölçütlerdir. Sağlık göstergeleri aracılığı ile ülkeler arasında karşılaştırma yapmak mümkün olmaktadır. Ayrıca karar vericiler de neyi düzeltmeleri gerektiği konusunda bilgi edinmektedir. Sağlık göstergelerinin bir kısmı sağlık ve ekonomik çevre ile ilgiliyken, bir kısmı fiziksel çevreyle, bir kısmı da bireyin karakteri, davranışları ve yaşam tarzı ile ilgilidir. Alkol ve tütün kullanımı ile obezite, toplum sağlığını en fazla tehdit eden önlenebilir problemlerin başında gelmektedir. Türkiye, bu göstergeler açısından OECD ülkeleri ile karşılaştırıldığında iyi durumda değildir. Alkol ve tütün kullanımı, karaciğer hasarına ve solunum yolu rahatsızlıklarına yol açarken, obezite ise vücut sistemlerinin neredeyse tamamını bozmaktadır. Bu çalışmada alkol ve tütün kullanımına bağlı rahatsızlıklar ve Türkiye’nin OECD ülkeleri içerisindeki durumu incelenmiştir.
Health indicators are measures aimed at demonstrating the performance of the public health and health system. It is possible to compare between countries through health indicators. The decision makers also know what they need to fix. Some of the health indicators are related to health and economic environment, while some are related to the physical environment, and some are related to the individual’s character, behavior and lifestyle. Alcohol and tobacco use and obesity are the top of preventable problems that threaten public health. Turkey is not in good position compared to OECD countries in terms of these indicators. Alcohol and tobacco use causes liver damage and respiratory disorders, while obesity disrupts almost the entire body system. This study examined the disorders associated with alcohol and tobacco use and the situation of Turkey within the OECD countries.

Alcohol and tobacco use can lead to liver damage and respiratory disorders, while obesity disrupts almost all body systems. In this study, use of alcohol and tobacco-related diseases in OECD countries and Turkey's status was examined.
