Abstract:

It is as old as human history to know or deny one's rab. This issue, which started with bezm-i elest (Qalu Bala), will continue as long as human being exists. In every period of history, there have always been ulama trying to prove the existence of Allah to disbelievers. Shi‘a imams distinguished among them with the method they followed. They tried to prove the existence of the creator by fighting against disbelievers with different ideas and thoughts through both rational (al aqli) and natural (al fitrah) proofs. By asking various questions to disbelievers about the universe and creation, the imams tried to take them from the denial of the creator to the level of the possibility of His existence. They aimed to convey the disbelievers they raised to this level to the rank of confession and faith by using many rational proofs, especially the burhân-ı hudûs (hudûth). In addition, the imams stated that the creator cannot be felt with the senses and cannot be defined with qualities belonging to the creatures (makhlooqat) such as tashbih and tajsim and tried to prove His existence with rational proofs without attempting to describe his zât (essence) and sıfats (attributes).
