Abstract:

Design-Skill Workshops is an application included in the 2023 Vision Document published by the Ministry of National Education-Turkey. With the emphasis on learning by doing and living and production, it is aimed to achieve a holistic development with workshops in science, art, sports, culture and life. The application started as a pilot application in the 2018-2019 academic year. In this research, before the workshops were established, the opinions of the school stakeholders from the Design-Skill Workshops in three pilot schools in Istanbul were examined. The questionnaires consisted of open-ended and closed-ended questions were answered by 9 school administrators, 94 teachers, 1439 students and 1123 parents. The data in the research in the survey model were analyzed descriptively. As a result of the findings obtained, it has been shown that Design-Skill Workshops is generally welcomed and that Design-Skill Workshops applications are welcomed by stakeholders and that there are important expectations. It has been concluded that teachers are the most concerned group about the risks that Design-Skill Workshops can pose, and school administrators are the group that thinks most positively about Design-Skill Workshops practices. It was concluded that the students were very satisfied with the establishment of Design-Skill Workshops in their schools, and that the parents thought their children would benefit from the Design-Skill Workshops studies. The recommendations were made in the light of the results of the study.
