Act. No 6769 on Industrial Propoerty Rights caming into force on 10.01.2017 has become a profound progress for Turkish Trademark Law. Rules took place on the decree law became not only provisions of an Act but also subject of an upgrade made for harmonisation with European Union legislations. As registration of an trademark confers exclusive rights to its proprietor in order to prohibit the potential conflicts which may arise from the registration, opposition procedure is accepted. Opposition procedure is a right given to third parties to request rejection of an trademark application because of earlier rights which may conflict with the application. Earlier rights which may form the basis of an opposition is regulated on Article 6 of Act No 6769 as relative grounds for refusal. On this study relative grounds for refusal and amendments will be discussed with regard to new Act.
