Abstract:

The rate of hematological diseases increases with ageing. The bone marrow biopsy is a process that allows the diagnosis of many diseases that affect the bone marrow. In this study, we aimed at identifying hematological pathologies and presentations seen in our own patient group; their effects on functionality and mortality were studied. The pre-diagnostics and biopsy results were found to be compatible with the presentations and laboratory values of patients. In areas diagnosed with malignity, survival periods have been shown to be long. CYGD (multi-directional geriatric evaluation) tests have been related to the speed of walking. Considering the presence of complicated diseases in the elderly, the performance of the patient, the condition of the benefit of the treatment that will be given after the diagnosis, the biopsy of the bone marrow within the indication must necessarily be done, not to be avoided due to the age. With aging, the frequency of hematological diseases is increasing. Bone marrow biopsy is a procedure that allows diagnosis of many diseases affecting bone marrow. In this study, the most common hematological pathologies and their presentation, functional and mortality effects were identified in our patient group. It was seen that the biopsy results were compatible with the preliminary diagnoses made by considering the presentation and laboratory values of the patients. In the areas of malignancy diagnosis, survival times were found to be long. Considering the existence of comorbid diseases in the elderly, the performance of the patient, and the benefit of treatment after diagnosis, bone marrow biopsy should be performed indefinitely and should not be avoided due to age.
