Bu araştırmanın amacı kadınların ve eşlerinin doğumda eş desteğine ilişkin görüşlerini incelemektir. Fenomeolojik tipteki araştırma, normal doğum yapan 15 kadın ve eşleri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir (n=30). Veriler görüşme formu ile derinlemesine ve yüz yüze görüşme yöntemiyle toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler tema ve kodlar altında toplanmış, verilerin analizinde tümevarımsal içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan kadınların tamamı doğumlarında sosyal desteğe ihtiyaç duyduğunu ifade etmiş, çoğunluğu utandığı/çekindiği, eşinin kendisini güçsüz görmesini istemediği, eşlerin doğuma girmesini yanlış bulduğu, doğumhane ortamının eşlerin girmesine müsait olmadığını düşündüğü için doğumda eşlerinin kendisine destek olmasını istemediğini belirtmiştir. Kadınların eşlerinin tamamı, eşlerine doğumlarında destek olmak istediklerini, en çok doğum öncesi dönemde (n=10) ve duygusal destek (n=12) olmak istediklerini söylemiştir. Kadınların doğum sürecinin tamamında sosyal destek ihtiyacının olduğu, kadınların eşlerinin doğumda onlara destek olmak istemelerine rağmen, kadınların çeşitli nedenlerden dolayı eşlerinin doğuma girmesini ve kendisine destek olmasını istemediği sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.
The aim of this study is to examine the views of women and their spouses on spousal support at birth. The phenomeological type of research was carried out with 15 women who gave birth normally and their spouses (n=30). The data were collected by in-depth and face-to-face interview method with an interview form. The obtained data were collected under themes and codes, and inductive content analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data. All of the women participating in the study stated that they needed social support during their births, and most of them stated that they did not want their spouses to support them at birth because they were embarrassed/shy, did not want their spouses to see them weak, thought it was wrong for the spouses to give birth, and thought that the delivery room environment was not suitable for the spouses to enter. All of the wives of the women stated that they wanted to support their husbands during their birth, and they wanted to be emotionally support (n=12) mostly in the prenatal period (n=10). It has been concluded that women need social support throughout the birth process, and although women's husbands want to support them in childbirth, women do not want their husbands to give birth and support them for various reasons.
