OBJECTIVE: The aim of this descriptive study was to determine the knowledge, opinions and professional attitudes of midwifery students against violence during pregnancy. METHODS: it was applied on the students except preparatory class who were studying at the midwifery department of school of health in İzmir (n: 312). 271 students in total was achieved who were accepted participating in the research and filled in the surveys completely. As data collecting tool, questionnaire form aiming to determining the demographic characteristics of the students and their knowledge and opinions about violence during pregnancy prepared according to the literature by researchers and question form by Gömbül in 1998 defining the Attitudes of Nurses/Midwives Related to Professional Roles in Violence have been used. RESULTS: It was determined that mean age of midwifery students were 21.75±1.83, and 39.1% had received training on violence during pregnancy, and 40.6% were exposed to domestic violence, 36.2% were witnessed violence in their family. The students know mostly physical violence among the kinds of violence during pregnancy. İt was determined that midwifery students have positive attitudes of related to their professional roles in violence and their attitudes have reflected modern view out of traditional way. CONCLUSION: It was found that midwifery students have knowledge about violence during pregnancy, supportive opinions of pregnant exposed to violence and have the modern attitudes related to the professional roles during pregnancy. İt can be suggested that issue of violence during pregnancy should be integrated into the curriculum and should be included in curriculum as a separately theoretical lecture by taking account the educational level of students on the issue of violence.
