Abstract:

This study aims to outline understanding of conservatism of the parties representing the National Vision tradition (National Order Party, National Salvation Party, Welfare Party, Virtue Party, Saadet Party) through conservative values (tradition, religion, family, society, property, authority etc.). Although there many studies in the literature about National Vision parties, it has been observed that there are no academic studies directly examining the conservatism understanding of these parties. This study claims to significantly address this gap in the literature. In this context, the conservative attitudes of National Vision parties were analyzed by using primary sources through an extensive literature review and in-depth analysis method. In this study a periodic distinction was made as before and after 1980 in order to fully understanding the conservatism approach of National Vision parties. In this context, although the two National Vision Movement parties operating in the pre-1980 period (National Order Party and National Salvation Party) attached importance to conservative values, especially religion and family. In the post-1980 period, Welfare Party, one of the parties representing the National Vision tradition internalized conservative values but the successor parties (Virtue Party and Saadet Party) rather than conservative values such as democracy, secularism, human rights etc. emphasized the issues.
