Abstract:

Aim: It is known that the essential oil obtained from the inflorescence of Tilia L. species is diuretic, sedative, muscle relaxant, diaphoretic, and effective against colds. In our study, it was planned to investigate the composition of the essential oil of the T. rubra subsp. caucasica (Rupr.) V.Engl. species, which is used as a folk medicine for similar reasons, and to examine the change in the content of the samples collected one year apart. Methods: Essential oil was obtained from the samples collected from Rize in 2020 and 2021 by hydrodistillation method, and the composition of the obtained essential oils were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography-flame ionizing detector (GC-FID) methods. Results: As a result of, hexadecanoic acid was the main compound with 48.9% and 51.6% rates for the 2020 and 2021 samples, respectively, while nonacosane followed it with 26.3% and 11.3% rates. Kaur-16-ene, tetradecanoic acid, tricosane, pentacosane compounds were found in high amounts in the sample collected in 2020, while linoleic acid, kaur-16-ene, linolenic acid, pentacosane were the main compounds determined in the sample collected in 2021. Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that the rates of the compounds in the content of essential oils obtained from the samples collected one year apart were different. It comes to mind that the observed differences may be mainly related to the changing climatic conditions.
