Abstract:

Aim: This study was conducted as a descriptive and correlational study to determine family burden and anger levels in mothers of children with intellectually disabled and to examine related factors. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out with the participation of mothers of 120 intellectually disabled children registered in 4 special education and rehabilitation centers. Data were collected using the “Family Description Form”, “Trait Anger Scale and Anger Expression Scale” and “Family. Burden Assessment Scale”. T-test, one-way analysis of variance correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the data. Results: In the study, it was observed that the family burden and the level of expressed anger were higher in mothers with low income (p<0.05). The total score distributions of anger control, anger expression, anger ınjection and family burden were statistically significant (p<0.05). In the study, family burden and trait anger (r=0.261; p<0.01), anger control (r=0.360; p<0.01), anger expression (r=0.372; p<0.01), anger introversion (r=0.262; p<0.01), maternal age (r=0.358; p<0.01), child age (r=0.234; p<0.05), diagnosis period (r=0.363; p<0) ,01) was found to have a statistically significant, positive, weak relationship (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result, it was determined that the family burden and anger levels were high in mothers who had a child with intellectually disabled and there was a relationship with some characteristics. It is very important to support parents in the care of a child with lifelong intellectually disabled.
