Osmanlı sokaklarının mimari yapısı, içinde barındırdığı toplumun sosyo-kültürel yapısını hem etkilemiş hem de toplumun yaşayış biçiminden etkilenerek şekillenmiştir. Bu bağlamda çıkmaz sokaklar, labirentimsi yapılar ve evlerin avlularının uzun duvarları, Osmanlı sokaklarındaki ilişkilerin doğasını belirlemiştir. Ancak, sokaklar yeni ihtiyaçların baş göstermesi ile dönüşüme açık hale gelmiştir. Toplu taşımaya yönelik tren ve tramvay gibi gelişmeler ve biraz da şehirlere imaj kazandırmak maksadıyla birtakım değişiklikler olmuştur. Sokakları genişletme çabaları 19. yüzyılın sonunda artmış ve toplu ulaşımın da artmasıyla şehir içi hareketlilik hız kazanmıştır. Bazı sokaklardaki evler genişletme faaliyetleri veya doğal afetler sebebiyle tahrip olmuş veya yıkılmıştır. Bu evlerden günümüze kalan Soğukçeşme Sokağı’ndaki yapılar yeni bir formla kullanıma sunulmuştur. Çalışmada Osmanlı sokaklarının fiziki ve manevi yönlerini tanıma, zamanla planlarının birtakım nedenlerle değişime tabi tutulması ve sokakların dönüşümleri üzerindeki ana etkenlerin üzerinde durulması hedeflenmiştir.
The architectural structure of the Ottoman streets has influenced the socio-cultural structure of the society in which it is hosted and has been shaped by the way of life of the society. In this context, the long walls of the untouched streets, labyrinth structures and gardens of houses have determined the nature of relationships in the Ottoman streets. However, the streets have become open to transformation with the face of new needs. There have been a number of changes in the development of public transport such as rail and tram and a little bit of the city's image. The efforts to expand the streets increased at the end of the 19th century, and with the increase in public transport, urban mobility gained speed. Some houses on the streets have been destroyed or destroyed due to expansion activities or natural disasters. The buildings in the Cold Cutting Street, which remained from these houses to the present day, have been introduced to use in a new form. The study aimed at recognizing the physical and spiritual aspects of the Ottoman streets, changing their plans over time for a number of reasons and focusing on the main factors on the transformation of the streets.
